Our identity

A strong, unified Association

The Association of Mechanical and Electrical Works Contractors of Cyprus (S.E.M.I.E.K.) is the merger of two historic associations of the sector.

Προέκυψε από τη συνένωση του Συνδέσμου Εργολάβων Ηλεκτρικών Εγκαταστάσεων Κύπρου, που δραστηριοποιούνταν από το 1959, και του Συνδέσμου Εργοληπτών Μηχανολογικών Έργων Κύπρου (ΣΕΜΕΚ), που δραστηριοποιούνταν από το 1973.

 

The merger aims to create a strong new Association representing every business active in the mechanical and electrical installations sector in Cyprus.

The Association of Electrical Installation Contractors of Cyprus is founded.

Mechanical engineers
The Association of Mechanical Works Contractors of Cyprus (SEMEK) is founded.
Today
Σ.Ε.Μ.Η.Ε.Κ.
The merger into a single Association for the whole sector.
OUR OBJECTIVES

The Association’s objectives

  1. Regulating relations and disputes between members, employers and employees.
  2. Organising members to coordinate their actions and take collective measures to promote and safeguard their professional and financial interests.
  3. Defending and promoting members’ interests before the Government, semi-governmental or other organisations and local authorities.
  4. Developing, promoting and improving members’ professional standards, strengthening their relations and fostering a spirit of solidarity and close cooperation to eliminate unfair competition.
  5. Collecting and providing information to members.
  6. Providing members with advisory, legal or other services the Board of Directors considers useful.
  7. Cooperating or participating, financially or otherwise, in the work or objectives of any lawful Association or Employers’ Federation.
  8. Advancing members’ professional interests and improving the conditions of their profession.
  9. Protecting members’ interests by any other lawful means.
  10. Establishing a Fund for the operation of the Association and the achievement of its objectives.
GOVERNANCE

How the Association is governed

Board of Directors

The Association is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors, elected every two years by the General Assembly of members.

Any member may raise a matter or suggestion with the Board and the General Assembly. Member businesses may publicise their membership and use the Association’s logo on their letterhead.

Independence and support

S.E.M.I.E.K. remains an independent legal entity and decides for itself on all matters concerning it.

It operates under the guiding and advisory role of OEB, which provides it with an executive secretary holding academic qualifications.

RELATIONSHIP WITH OEB

Affiliated with the Employers and Industrialists Federation

For better service, the Association is affiliated with OEB while retaining full autonomy over its decisions.
